San Francisco Board of Education is quiet following report of group examining possible recalls

San Francisco’s Board of Education is declining to comment Wednesday on a report that a city nonprofit is targeting its members for possible recall efforts amid continued frustration over delays in reopening its schools.

The Campaign for Better Public Schools launched by Families for San Francisco will also explore placing a charter amendment on the ballot to make board members mayoral appointees rather than being elected, according to the San Francisco Examiner.

The developments come as the San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) postponed Tuesday’s scheduled talks on how to safely reopen classrooms despite an ongoing lawsuit by the City

China utilizes new, ‘sophisticated’ methods to revive patriotic education: report

China is looking to new, modern methods in its campaign of patriotic education, according to reports.

The focus on patriotic education has come back into sharp focus as China wrangles with how to handle Hong Kong after its controversial handling of the extradition bill that led to protests that lasted throughout 2019 and the national security law that revived the protests earlier in 2020.

Teenagers and young adults led the charge in the Hong Kong response, with around 40% of the thousands of protesters arrested in 2019 registered as students.
