Largest U.S. education union is ‘demanding that the federal government act’

As U.S. schools reopen amid the coronavirus pandemic the largest educators union in America is calling for Congress to approve critically-needed funding as soon as possible.

“What school district put in their budget, the funds for plexiglass?… [or] funds to have masks and change them on a regular basis?” asked Becky Pringle, the newly-elected president of the National Education Association (NEA). “No one did that.”

Over 1,000 sign petition demanding teach-from-home option for Woodland educators

Over 1,000 people have signed a letter demanding that educators in the Woodland area be given the choice to work from home and facilitate distance learning with students.

Gov. Gavin Newsom announced in July that schools in counties on the COVID-19 watchlist, including Yolo County, would begin the year with distance learning. But, according to the Woodland Education Association, the Woodland Joint Unified School District is requiring staff members to work in-person at district worksites.

Congressional Dems Sign Letter Demanding Education Dept. Allow Males in Girls Sports

A group of congressional Democrats signed a letter on Wednesday demanding that the Department of Education allow males to participate in girls sports.

Connecticut Senator Richard Blumenthal and 27 other Democratic members of Congress signed the letter, which stated that the department’s order “discriminates against transgender youth” by ruling that it is a violation of women’s access to education and athletics for public schools to allow biological males who identify as female to participate in female sports.
