D308 Parents Organize Car Rally To Demand Reopening Of Schools

OSWEGO, IL — Before the Oswego School District 308 Board of Education votes on the reopening plans Monday evening, a group of parents, teachers and students from the district will participate in a rally, demanding that children be sent back to in-person learning.

Organized by the Facebook group called Rally to Open SD308 for All Students, this event will see cars decorated with signs, asking the district to reconsider its prior decision and send students back to school earlier. D308 Presents Reopening Plans For Fall Amid Pandemic

OSWEGO, IL — The Oswego School District 308 is aiming to reopen schools Aug. 19 for the 2020-2021 school year. During its July 13 meeting, Associate Superintendent for Educational Services Faith Dahlquist presented the plan to the Board of Education, which gives students the choice to attend school in person or to engage in remote learning.

The district aims to follow Centers for Disease Control, American Association of Pediatrics and Illinois State Board of Education guidelines, and based on those, its priorities for learning options are:

  • Minimizing health risks for all students and staff.

  • Maximizing the time for in-person instruction.
