Professor who used racial slur in class is put on leave

A university professor in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, has been placed on paid leave after a video widely shared on social media showed him using a racial slur in class and appearing to give students permission to use the slur “because we’re using it in a pedagogical sense.”

“Effective yesterday, Friday, September 11, that faculty member in the video, education professor Gary Shank, is on paid leave, pending investigation,” Duquesne University said in a statement, adding that another professor is taking over the course.

A 16-year-old Ecuadorian high school student decided to take matters into her own hands when she learned that children in a poor neighborhood of Guayaquil couldn’t continue their education online, Reuters reports.

University of St Andrews to introduce compulsory sexual assault education class following Telegraph investigation

The University of St Andrews is introducing a compulsory module on consent and sexual assault for all of its students, following a Telegraph investigation into a series of alleged rapes on campus.

Every single one of the university’s 9,000 students will be required to participate in the online class before they are allowed to start the forthcoming academic year in a move that has been praised by female students.

School class sizes could increase to ‘bubbles’ of 30 pupils, Education Secretary says


Gavin Williamson said the Government is looking at returning class sizes to 30 pupils as he hinted England will reduce the two-metre rule.

The Education Secretary said the Government is looking at creating larger “bubbles” to allow class sizes to expand in time for the autumn term.

He told Friday’s Downing Street briefing: “We’ve been creating bubbles of children in the classroom, creating a protective environment for those children.

“Currently that is at 15, what we would be looking at doing is expanding those bubbles to include the whole class.”
