The government has been urged to stop students arriving at universities amid fears teenagers across the UK will be “locked in their rooms”  as coronavirus outbreaks force thousands to self-isolate.

Labour said education secretary Gavin Williamson must consider delaying the start of the autumn term until mass on-campus Covid-19 testing or remote learning options were available.

The call came after thousands of students in Glasgow, Manchester and Edinburgh were ordered to self-isolate following outbreaks linked to freshers’ week, with some accusing their university of “false imprisonment”.

Fourth Concord Board Of Education Member Calls It Quits

CONCORD, NH — In January 2021, when Concord’s Board of Education begins the work of the New Year, nearly half the nine-person body will be new members — with two-thirds of the board having less than a year’s experience advising the third largest school district in the state.

Labour has called for next year’s A-level and GCSE exams in England to be pushed back in order to cope with the impact of the coronavirus crisis on pupils.

Shadow education secretary Kate Green said pupils entering Year 11 and 13 who have lost up to six months of teaching time face “a mountain to climb” unless the timetable is changed.

Ms Green said exams due next May need to be delayed until June or July to facilitate extra teaching time.

Marin County Calls For Delay In In-Person Classroom Instruction

MARIN COUNTY, CA — Marin County’s Office of Education and Public Health Department jointly recommended Wednesday that TK-12 schools reopen gradually in the fall with new protocols to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

“Our goal is to support the health and wellbeing of students and staff during this process,” Marin County Superintendent of Schools Mary Jane Burke said in the statement. “We recognize the concerns and anxiety surrounding the return to the classroom and believe that a transitional approach will allow staff and students to feel more comfortable in this new environment.”
