It was revealed on Tuesday that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle made a generous donation towards CAMFED, a pan-African charity that helps revolutionize how young African girls receive an education throughout the continent. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced that they were matching the original amount of $130,000 that was fundraised by some of their biggest fans, who are known on Twitter as the “Sussex Squad.” Since the start of the fundraising campaign on July 25th, fans of the couple have shared that they donated to the cause using the hashtags #InspiredbyHarry and #InspiredbyMeghan.
“No better way to celebrate what really matters,” read a joint statement shared from Prince Harry and Meghan. “Thank you to everyone that donated!”
The Sussexes have close ties to the organization. Last year for International Women’s Day, Duchess Meghan appeared on a panel alongside Angie Murimirwa, CAMFED’s executive director in Africa. Also during the couple’s 2019 tour of Africa, Prince Harry appeared at a CAMFED event in Lilongwe, Malawi, which Meghan attended via video chat for a virtual address.
