The Division of Research on Learning in Formal and Informal Settings (DRL) within the Education and Human Resources Directorate (EHR) announces a nationwide search for one or more full time permanent Program Directors at the National Science (NSF) with research expertise in science or engineering teaching and learning at the preK-12 level for all learners.
The successful candidate will work across programs in DRL as all programs support research and development on areas related to this announcement. These programs include but are not limited to EHR Core Research (ECR), Discovery Research preK-12 (DRK-12), Information Technology Experiences for Students and Teachers (ITEST) and Advancing Informal STEM Learning (AISL). In addition, successful candidates may represent the Division on cross-Directorate programs with an emphasis on science or engineering education. Central to DRL’s efforts is the broadening of participation in STEM and STEM education, focusing on equity and inclusion and taking account of the perspectives and strengths of groups that have historically been underrepresented
NSF Program Directors have an unparalleled opportunity and responsibility to ensure NSF funded activities are at the forefront of advancing fundamental knowledge. In support of that mission, Program Directors are responsible for extensive interaction with informal and formal educational organizations, academic and industry research communities, as well as interaction with other Federal agencies that may lead to the development of interagency collaborations. Within this context, Program Directors solicit, receive, and review proposals; invite and facilitate review panels; make funding recommendations; administer awards; and undertake interaction with research communities in these fields. They are also responsible for service to the Foundation-wide activities and initiatives that together accomplish NSF’s strategic goals to:
1) Transform the Frontiers of Science and Engineering
2) Stimulate Innovation and Address Societal Needs through Research and Education
3) Excel as a Federal Science Agency.

Candidates must have a Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Science or Engineering, Science Education, Engineering Education, or a related field, plus after award of the Ph.D. or Ed.D., six or more years of successful research, research administration, and/or managerial experience pertinent to the position.
